SUMMARY: Prepares and cooks meals for residents and employees of agency and insures the safety and cleanliness of the kitchen and related areas.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Prepares and cooks meals for residents and employees of agency and insures the safety and cleanliness of the kitchen and related areas.

 

Develops and posts weekly menus in accordance with federal and state funding guidelines.

 

Prepares nutritionally balanced meals following posted menus, using donated and purchased food.

 

Maintains production records of items and amounts of food used in compliance with Special Nutrition Program standards.

 

Serves meals, orders food and supplies, effectively using food banks and vendors to maximize economy and efficiency.

 

Maintains sanitation and cleanliness of the kitchen in compliance with public health standards.

 

Maintains sanitation and cleanliness of the pantries, freezers, refrigerators, stoves and all kitchen and staff food storage areas.

 

Receives, verifies, and properly stores donated and delivered items that are used for meal preparation.

 

Must be willing to work at additional locations when requested.

 

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

 

Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and be able to drive during day and night hours.

 

OTHER DUTIES: In accordance with the team philosophy of the agency, may routinely be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed above.

 

Must act in accordance with the agency's mission statement and goals.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to vendors, clients, and other employees of the agency. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Current Food Handlers Certification (health card) required.  Food Manager’s License required, or must be able to obtain within the first 6 months of employment. Maintenance of the Food Manager’s License will be required once obtained.  Current Texas Driver's License required.  Proof of automobile liability insurance required.

SCHEDULE:  Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00am to 6:30pm. (will be required to work some holidays)
